You might have heard that TSMC, Apple's chipmaker, is making a new chipmaking plant in Phoenix, Arizona (or at least trying to; the project is "over budget" and "behind schedule" into 2025 (though given the circumstances it will certainly be 2026 pretty soon), so only older devices will have the chips suited for it, which TSMC has fought against itself by demanding double the money). For the project, TSMC "specifically sought out" "almost half" of the staff to be Taiwanese instead of American, and local company meetings in Mandarin only "to deliberately exclude American workers", which is "anti-American discrimination" and has been called that by the company's own talent acquisition exec, Deborah Howington, who just filed a lawsuit against it. TSMC hasn't responded to the lawsuit, save a blah hiring values statement.
